What To Do When You Get An Awkward Love Note

You go to your mailbox in the morning, just like you always do. You don't expect much, just the usual. Bills, letter from the grandma who hasn't yet discovered email, this month's issues of “Amazing Aetra” and “Plushie Paradise”, and if you're lucky, Maury didn't accidentally misplace your package from the Sauerkraut of the Month club you've been a member of for three years. This morning however you'll find something different mixed among your packages: The awkward love note. Sporting purple prose-filled poetry that could make Credwurd Eullen blush or maybe a simple “Do you like me, yes or no?”, the awkward love note is a reality that many face around Infestation time. So what do you do when a secret admirer sends you your very own love note?

Say you want to reply back. Sure, the note is awkward and written about as well as the Demonic Gourix fanfiction you wrote in the forth grade, but it's still a sweet gesture from a shy admirer. What better way to reply to an awkward love note than with another awkward love note? Be sure to make it just the right amount of gushy, preferably just enough to match the original note. Years from now when you're both getting married you'll probably find these notes in a shoe box somewhere and share some laughs together over the memories.

Suppose however that the note is just too awkward and bizarre for you to give an accurate response. Do you say thank you? Do you set the note aflame before the sugary sweetness gives you cavities or use it like flypaper to keep away the love bugs? In this case be sure to thank the person who sent it to you, assuming they aren't anonymous, and if you do not wish to pursue a relationship with the person, be sure to let them down gently. Remember, they went to all the effort to make you a mushy love note so it's nice to at least acknowledge them.

Unless of course you got the note from Bud the Bum, in which case you might want to disregard all that advice and instead just smile, nod, and walk away quickly.
