In actuality, Project A.N.G.E.L.F.A.C.E. operates by giving its patients the impression that he or she will not only be genetically enhanced aesthetically and physically to protect Eartha, but also that he or she will be integrated into an elite army that will maintain peace and stability in their new world. To a certain degree, this is true. The undisclosed aspect of the project, however, is that the operating scientists are instructed to inject a serum into the volunteer patient's body. This serum alters the patient's perception of things and leads them to believe that the government is right in all decisions. The patient is left with the impression that those who question the ways of the government are threats that need to be immediately eradicated. Volunteers basically enter the operating room believing that their surgical enhancements will allow for justice and liberty to continue to be upheld in their city; in actuality, the perverse truth is that volunteers are contributing to the growth of blatant injustice and the surge of governmental attempts to have jurisdiction over all aspects of civilian life. They ultimately become a part of a cruel, underground police force (The Seraphic Patrol) that brutally reacts to even the slightest inclination of defection from governmental ideas and practices. The Seraphic Patrol glorifies duty, honor, loyalty, and trustworthiness above all.
