Droplets of water. Everywhere.
It had been raining for the past week and a half. Most of the Misticans had taken their usual shelter, for the passing storm was intriguing, and had twisted and turned the time of day, making it impossible to believe the sun and moon still existed behind those sodden clouds.
This was usual for this time of year. The wind blew cold, and sent chills through even the tallest of trees. A faint shape coasted on the horizon, almost unrecognizable as anything existent. His eyes adjusted to the cool, blue scene. He let out a sigh, and bounded away, his paw steps making no noise.
He was a phantom, a ghost. A likely outcast, but in this town, everyone was an outcast.
He padded onward, the rain going through his transparent white aura. The most solid were his piercing red eyes. They always said, he thought, When the color of your eyes fades, your soul fades. His eyes were a strong red. He still had some figuring out to do. He could not remember his life before he was a phantom.
Yes, he could recall that he was a Cheran. He distinctly remembered him being woodland. But he could not recall his name, nor his birthplace. His siblings, if he had any, were dissolved memories. But he did remember one thing. A massive tree, with a fallen branch, sitting near the middle of a field. He had to find that field. Until then, would his memories fulfill him. Until then would he remember how the setting sun beat down on the back of his solid shell, warming the fur underneath, as he sat with the family he helped raise. Until then would he awake, and realize he had to find the one who had deceived him all those years ago and took his life away before he could complete his destiny. Until then, would he remember Austin, his name? It echoed, into the sky. As he sat concentrated in thought, a faint ray of sunlight shone from a small fault in the darkness. Hope.
