Carpe Diem
"I once knew a man, very talented guy
He's sing for the people and people would cry
They knew that his song came from deep down inside
You could hear it in his voice and see it in his eyes
And so he traveled along, touch your heart, then be gone
Like a flower, he bloomed till that old hickory wind
Called him home
My man's got it made
He's gone far beyond the pain
And we who must remain go on living just the same"*
The melancholy song drifted down to softly serenade the diners seated at the out door tables in front of Carpe Diem...
Floyd owns and operates a restaurant smack in the center of his small town's square. He is actually the proprietor of the building that houses it, the bookstore he has given his daughter to run and four cozy apartments on the upper floors.
He loves to cook, but unfortunately no one else seems to appreciate his culinary genius. Luckily, he found Mine and she has made his baby a success. He strives to support community farms and ranches by buying locally as often as he is able. He also strives to create an environment welcoming to pal owners by allowing them to dine with their pets when seated on the sidewalk.
Because he is not often allowed in the kitchen, he spends the majority of his time on site playing host and overseeing the front. He is sarcastic and a bit abrasive, but charming nonetheless. Most everyone who crosses his path comes away with a smile. He loves music and playing his guitar. His voice, though by no means star quality, is rich and pleasant. The majority of his customers are not adverse to the time he spends sitting in his rooftop vegetable and herb garden, playing and singing.

Floyd is a dedication to my father who passed away Jan 22nd, 2010. He is a product of a conversation we once had about what he would do if he were to "win the lottery." He wanted to open a restaurant in a town like Fredericksburg, TX and have a place that served extremely fresh foods and allowed people to dine with their dogs. He loved to play both bass and acoustic guitars and my brothers and I spent many a night of our childhoods being sung to sleep.
I will always love and miss you dad.
