"They say insanity comes at a price. What price? Your sanity? Bull. Nobody's sane. Except for, maybe, that little pooch sitting innocently over there. But wait! He's plotting on how to thieve from his owner. That's sanity? No. That's normality," a great, rotting beast spoke. His eyes have long since decayed, leaving a spiraling pattern leading through an empty skull. The ghost of a snarl ripples across his still-powerful maw. The dog he spoke of raised itself on its hind legs and snatched a piece of meat from its owner's table, leaving an angry being, bent to the snapping point. He grabs a thick stick from the ground and reaches for the dog. It flinches and whines, dropping the slice of ribs, but the owner is in a fit of rage. He beats the dog savagely, and the great wolf turns away in disgust. "There's your sanity," he laughs hoarsely, a noise that is grating on the ears. His tail, held together by bits of sinew and tendon, clicks on the hard, packed ground. Dust rises fitfully, as if angered by its disturbance. The wolf sneezes, but nothing comes from his mouth or nose. "Hahaha. That's insane, right there, if anything." He gave no direction as to his subject. "Who am I?" He says, voice piercing to the ear, "I'm a ghost of what once was." He laughed again. "No, not really, I drank a potion given to me by that old potions bat, Lovebite. Poisoned me, she did!" Another rasping laugh, rauccous and pained. "I can't feel this," he says, biting his forefoot. It pops off with a crack, making the wolf wince. "That wasn't supposed to happen," he says, taking the paw into his jaws. Shrugging, he stands up and lopes away on three paws.
