BACKSTORY
gunnison is the youngest of five brothers, and it shows. immature, boyish, and a little thick-headed, it was a long time before his older brothers felt comfortable leaving him to tend to his duties on his own. even now many of them are suspicious that he's mature enough to be left alone. to cope with this, his older brother hawthorne spent many years mentoring him as a boy, and to this day continues to regularly checks up on him. hawthorne is typically pleased enough to see that despite gunnison's unpredictable personality, he has yet to endanger the village he looks after or its inhabitants. the people there seem to be thriving, and have a distinct respect for their beloved guardian.
RELATIONSHIPS
hamlet: gunnison is generally afraid of his older brother, hamlet. hamlet has never really displayed any visable signs that he cares very much about his family, and gunnison's quirky personality and lack of discipline disturbs him. he and gunnison rarely speak with each oher unless the necessity arises, something that both parties are grateful for. gunnison wishes that one day the two of them might be able to mend the differences between them, even though he's doubtful such an opportunity would ever arise.
hawthorne: hawthorne is in essence a mentor to gunnison. gunnison learned almost everything from his older brother growing up, and was under hawthorne's watchful eye until he was capable of taking on his duties as guardian of the mountain on his own. the two often visit with each other and are still very close.
matthew: being relatively the same age and of similar personalities, matthew and gunnison are pretty close. however, if the pair is left unsupervised, they typically get themselves into a lot of trouble due to their lack of self-control and inhibitions.
ragnarok: even though ragnarok is a very intimidating figure, he does care for his little brother, even though he rarely shows it. although he doesn't approve of gunnison's sometimes reckless behavior and immaturity, he sees a lot of potential in him, and only hopes that he'll eventually grow to become more responsible and less impulsive.
PERSONALITY
gunnison is a laid-back, optimistic fellow. although he is dedicated to his duty of protecting the village, he really takes nothing else seriously, not even himself. his older brothers often chide him for what they consider poor behavior, though their efforts have yet to have any impact. he has an almost naive, whimsical outlook on life that has helped to earn him the admiration and friendship of the villagers. although he lacks experience, his comaderie with the village has motivated him to fiercely protect its livelihood.
what he lacks in natural intelligence he more than makes up for in curiosity about the world around him; he'd rather devote his afternoons to chasing jackrabbits through the snow than studying texts and listening to his brothers droll on about events of historical significance. as far as he's concerned, there isn't really anything to learn from "a bunch of old dead guys" anyway.
gunnison is also very outgoing and talkative. he loves people and he usually won't stop talking unless someone blatantly tells him to shut up... and even then it's often hard to get him to stop chattering.
he often speaks before thinking, which can often get him into trouble if he isn't careful.
APPEARANCE
leopard form: in his true form, gunnison appears as a massive snow leopard that almost seems to glow with an ethereal energy. however, his stoic, authoratative appearance in this form betrays his true personality.
human form: gunnison's human form has changed throughout the centuries, but he keeps up with modern trends when looking after his appearance. this way he is able to make more of a connection with the villagers. he stands around 5'6" tall, and could easily blend in with any other person if not for the obvious leopard ears and tail he retains from his true form. with his pale complexion and striking gray hair, the only reliable way to pick him out from the snowy landscape is his striking blue eyes.
