She grew up in a northern village where the inhabitants knew ice and cold better than their own breath. For seven years, she was just another wind-weathered body, another spark of vitality in an otherwise barren landscape. Then one night, she woke to find herself staring at her sleeping body. She could still feel the chill in the air and the blankets on her arms. When she reached down to brush her arm, she could feel soft fur.
It wasn't a dream.
In her excitement, she accidentally slipped back into her body and woke up. The next night, she convinced her little sister to try it with her. They played all night in the snow drifts while their bodies slept. When the sun peeked over the horizon, sending shimmers across the ground, she woke up.
Her sister never did.
They blamed her for her sister's eternal sleep. One frost-bitten night, she took her things and left before they could decide on a punishment. She settled further south and began honing her abilities. The villagers called it evil. Her books called it astral projecting.
Now
She would still be spending her days alone if she hadn't stumbled upon the body of a child cradled in the snow not far from her home. After stuffing her full of warm soup, she tried to send her home, but the child's village wouldn't take her back because her uncontrollable ice powers kept causing troublesome blizzards. So, she took her in. Not long after, they began finding more misfits with nowhere else to go.
Now she spends her days playing guardian to the wayward children she's collected. At night, she scours the dreamscape in search of her little sister.
She doesn't think she'll ever stop looking.
