While he does not possess a Napoleon Complex, to say that Toad is rather proud and vindictive for his size is an understatement: If he wasn't a professed "coward," he'd take a literal piss in a Court Elf's dinner. At most however Toad is just a grumpish boy who only holds his tongue out of fear of what may come to him if he ever spoke his mind around the wrong people. Any real spite he feels towards others comes more from an innate sense of justice needed to be righted than out of pettiness. He hates bullies and oppressors. Likewise, he has a strong distrust in most systems that puts power into the hands of a few. Toad has read so many works on social justice (by both Elsewhere and Human authors) that he occasionally needs reminders from Mario that not everyone is as well read as he is. While he is well read on many things, his youth still betrays him with naivety, and he isn't always the best when it comes to picking up on social cues.

On the rare chance that he isn't being quiet or serious, Toad can be a rather impish fellow. Like any good goblin, he enjoys pulling a prank or two --goodhearted or not -- and most of all he loves morbid humor. He isn't one to be too open about his adoration of the grotesque around polite, non-goblin company though; He's quick to apologize to those he's offended, so long as he likes them anyway. If he doesn't like you, you'll know it based on how sarcastic and passive-aggressive he is. With most strangers though he's courteous, and while around friends he's almost princely when he isn't being a usual toad.

Though his vitriolic demeanor usually overshadows his softer side, Toad is more driven by righteousness and compassion than by hate, and while he likes to present himself as independent, mature, and prideful, he loves the kindness, loyalty, and acceptance that comes from long term companionship even more.
