A pacifist by nature, Hyp dislikes violence and prefers to avoid confrontation if at all possible. He would prefer to sit down and enjoy a drink or two, being friends with owners and bartenders of various establishments in the city. Of course, it doesn't bother him at all since he's able to drink like a fish. Unfortunately for him, he's actually a member of a mercenary guild called the Void Blade. As the name barely suggests, the group takes hits on any planet for the right price. For the highest ranked hits, Hyp is called in to take them out. The reason? Hyp is actually the sub-leader and one of the founders of VB. The true leader, who goes by the handle of "Nacht" is old friends with him and finds his pacifistic nature hilarious, after all who would've thought that an assassin with a fourty-million bounty on his head would actually be an advocate against violence.
If it was a case of being backed into a corner with no other option, it would be one thing, but Hyp willingly and knowingly created and joined the Blades. Since he wears the standard, guild-crafted suit, no one knows what his face looks like, so he's managed to keep anonymity; well, that and the fact that everyone looks the same with their suit on..yeah. Around the guild barracks, where he spends 3/4 of the year, he's referred to as various nicknames; SL, Sub, The Hypocrite, and Black Kettle, to name a few. It's been going on for so many years until he returns to Earth for leave he forgets that his real name is Shale.
Most of the time, Hyp is seen in the company of Nacht, along with the four immediately below him in rank, Switch, Chill, Hornet, and Red Falcon - seeing as the six of them were raised under the same house, adopted by the same Daddy Long Legs. Since he and Switch always had the strongest rivalry, it goes without saying that Hyp always ends up getting the most grief from him about being complacent and anti-confrontational. Possibly the scariest thing about Hyp is that he transitions between his two "modes" without so much as batting an eye. On several occasions he's murdered someone in cold blood and turned right around to have a cup of tea and converse with someone.
