The Clumsy Ballerina
(Artwork to come... But this will have to do until then!)
Kelsey
.Clumsy.Dedicated.Quiet.
She's a girl that has been clumsy from the beginning. As soon as she was able to walk she was tripping over her own feet and bumping into just about everything. Her parents were always having to keep a very close eye on her.
One day, her mother took her to a ballet performed by the local ballet academy. Kelsey fell in love with the whimsical dance. She knew right then that more than anything else in the world she wanted to be a ballerina. Her parents were very hesitant about letting the little girl join a ballet class, after all she was just about the most uncoordinated child they had ever seen. But after weeks of begging, they finally caved in and signed her up for a class. Much to her parents' surprise, she seemed to succeed with her dancing. She transformed into a focused, graceful little girl
As she grew, she continued in her training and became quite the dancer. Her goal became to one day achieve the title of Prima Ballerina. While she was as graceful as can be on the dance floor, she was still as klutzy as ever off. The difference in her dancing and normal life coordination was astounding. Perhaps, it was the amount of focus that went into dancing. She was focused as can be from the instant she set foot on the dance floor. On the other hand, when she was off the dance floor her head was in the clouds. She was constantly daydreaming. She was too busy in her daydream world to pay attention to what was going on around her.
During her senior year of high school, she decided to audition to for a prestigious performing arts school in a large city. She passed the initial audition and was called in to do a second audition and she flew out to the city where the school was. She had practiced her routine harder than she had practiced anything in her life. She was nervous about the judges liking her routine, but knew that it was her best effort.
She went into the school the day of the audition and tripped through the doorway and caught the attention of the others waiting to audition. She felt her face flush, but tried her best to not look embarrassed. She made her way to the locker room to change into her leotard and ballet slippers. She made her way out of the locker room and took a seat on the bench and waited for her name to be called.
Finally her name was called, and she went in. "Welcome, you may start whenever you're ready," one of the judges said. There was a jury of six different professors, and she had to impress all of them to get into the school. She got into first position and nodded to the pianist to start her song. She closed her eyes and got lost in her routine. There were turns, jumps and everything in between. Her routine, though mostly ballet, consisted of ballet, jazz and modern dance steps. She wanted to show off that she was well rounded and could dance more than just ballet. After the routine, the same judge that welcomed her nodded her direction. "Thank you for auditioning, you'll be hearing back from us within a week about the results of your audition."
She went back home, and couldn't concentrate on anything other than her audition and how all of her hopes rested in this school. She knew she could go to a lesser school and still succeed in her dancing, but getting into this school would help her be on her way to be deserving of the title Prima Ballerina. Finally she got a phone call from the school, and her heart was pounding. "Miss Kelsey?" the voice said. "This is her," she responded, her heart skipping a beat. "Congratulations, you have been accepted into our program. We will be able to discuss classes once you're back here. Do you accept our invitation to the school?" She couldn't believe that was even a question. She wouldn't have wasted all that time and effort in her audition if she wasn't absolutely sure about wanting to be in the school. "Yes, of course I accept," she responded. "Good, we'll be in touch. I'll be sending you some paperwork in the mail," she said and hung up the phone.
Kelsey got off the phone and felt she was walking on clouds. She had worked her life up until this point to get here. And she felt amazing. So she packed up her things and her parents sent her off to college. It was hard for them to watch her leave, but they were proud of her for working so hard to accomplish her dream. She got on the train with her belongings and went off to college. She got to the big city and got off the train, into a taxi, and to her apartment near the college. She made her way up to her apartment and set down her suitcases. She looked around and ran her hip into the kitchen counter as she walked into the kitchen. "Ouch..." she muttered. The apartment was already furnished with the bigger things, such as a bed, table and couch. She could see that her roommate had already been here, as one of the bedrooms had been claimed. Hopefully, she liked her roommate... She supposed she would find out soon enough...
