That was definitely tweeted to cause some kind of mass shake-up and prompting on the anonymous memes on LJ, Reese thought. Her interest was piqued, of course, if there really were plans. Had Cindy made them? Because Reese didn't make them. It was probably a girls' night out. And since it was a girls' night out, she had to fit in a little. Not a lot, but she didn't intend to look the manliest out of the group this time.

She reached for the hand mirror on her nightstand, carefully observing her face. There was a little red spot under her ear, and her hair was just long enough to cover it up. Sure, most girls didn't admit they popped their zits. Reese found it fun. She wouldn't admit to it unless someone, you know, asked her. Not because she wanted to be gross and talked about, but really, she enjoyed it. She picked at things. Squeezing areas of her face was a little less stressful than finding something to wear, anyway.

Along with the mirror, she set her phone down on the nightstand and rose to the closet. Cindy had moved out of Reese's apartment and into her fiance's, and some part of her hurt inside a little. Maybe in the chest area. Or the solar plexus? Or her feet. Maybe it was her feet or somewhere near that region. She took some nasty spills in that last game.

Games were actually kind of reminiscent to life. They were all friendlies, and only if you were competing in something as serious as the FA Cup or World Cup or the other matches, you were fighting to live or something. But the goal was to not lose. You didn't have to win. You could always tie. That was pleasant, too. When you entered the adult world, life was just a little more intense. Life was football.

Reese pulled her sweater over her head and as she browsed through her closet, she touched her chest. A little something, if not totally flat. When she was in fourth grade, she was the first of the girls in her class to hit one of the more unfortunate stages in their lives. After a few years of playing with cars and with dolls, maybe that was what would finally convince her to stay to the girls' side of the playground and gossip and walk around and like boys.

But she adored baseball, not softball; she adored being hit by the tether ball instead of screaming and ducking from it.
In elementary school, they played kickball at every recess. She was always captain -- and what a captain she was. Maybe she was biased because she always chose the best boy players instead of the popular kids, but would anyone get anywhere by choosing the popular kids? No; in her opinion, they'd be losing millions of dollars because the popular kids would besmirch their name or get thrown into prison too often. Popular kids don't listen. A lot of the other girls were popular kids. They weren't doing anything with their lives. She didn't think so.

Reese could list all the ways that she and her former classmates would be different from one another. She had a flat belly. She got to play a game all the time. She was financially set.
But it was so much harder to find companionship. Whatever sponsorship she had, whatever was associated with the team... she couldn't bear to hurt that image. The girls were some of her best friends... Cindy, Irene... 3 and 5, and herself, 8. She had known Cindy since elementary school, and it was nice that they played together now. They didn't live together anymore.

Before she was conscious of it, her hand was off of her chest. Reese was dressed prim and proper. And she was staring at her phone. Nothing new. As well-off as she was, she had to face it: women's football wasn't as enthralling was men's football. Not with girls, because they loved men's thighs. Not with guys, because they were too covered up.

Reese Morel, #8, was Liverpool LFC's striker. She didn't have to broadcast her problems to the media, and the media wasn't interested in her. She knew they would if she decided to open up more about her personal life, but Mason had told her to stay classy, all she needed were her fans and friends and family. But now that her home was emptier, a part deep inside her was, too.

A few minutes later, she updated her Twitter.
