Personality:
Pennie is headstrong and very independent. She is rational in almost all situations and easily able to adapt to any issue she is faced with. She isn't intimated by anyone or anything, not even the queen, however this sometimes gets in her way. Pigheadedness and the desire to win sometimes clouds her judgment. She sometimes says things without thinking, causing her to get into trouble. Due to her feelings towards Hade, and her need to impress him, she sometimes steals objects to show off. This has caused her to have quite a bad rep amongst the guards of the castle. Despite being fifteen, she acts very childish, making faces or being crude when she can. Pennie doesn't take lightly to teasing, especially from Hade. She loves to get even and strives to be the best at it. In fact, she tends to have a superiority complex when it comes to sword fighting and claims she's the best, even though she's still an apprentice. A perfectionist, Pennie doesn't settle for less and always works at being better at whatever she can or will attempt. She also adores bragging and showing off. She hates dresses and "girly things" of any kind, which is why she loathes the "proper" queen. She prefers to get "down and dirty". But her most carefully guarded secret is her love of stuffed animals. She collects small knit puppets and dolls that are left behind by small children. She loves how soft they are and loves to hug them. They oddly calm her down when she gets nervous around Hade or when something happens to frighten her. However, can be quite bashful, despite her usual demeanor. The idea of liking Hade intimidates her, he is the only thing she ever gets flustered about. But she tries her best to impress him or flirt with him in slight ways. She likes to daydream and can often be found gazing at the stars or thinking about Hade in a romantic manner. But, she has to hide such things from him, cleverly making excuses to cover up her affectionate feelings towards her master.
Physical Appearance:
Pennie is quite short, but uses it to her advantage in battle by crawling into small areas to hide to add an element of surprise in battle. She has a small, round face and large light green eyes, this causes her to looks younger than she is. She has a tiny, flat tipped and rounded nose. Her lips are quite tiny but very slender. Her ears are also quite small. Her eyes are sharply curved, giving her a cocky and playful look. Her hair is held in a tight braid that goes to the side and is cream in color. The braid, she claims helps her be more aerodynamic and helps keep her "unruly" hair out of the way. Without braiding it, her hair is long and frizzy, which annoys her. She ties off the braid with a dark blue tie that Hade gave to her soon after they fight met so that her braid wouldn't come out. Oddly, despite loathing all things feminine, she keeps her hair long. This is due to her belief that longer hair makes one "powerful". She has a boxy frame and a tiny bust, which is fine with her. She feels this helps her "blend in" when her and Hade go on convert missions and she has to pose as a male. She has no hips and very slender legs, much to her dismay. She loathes how weak her legs are, often complaining that it effects her ability to fight.
Attire:
Pennie wears a small medium shirt with sleeves that hangs below her shoulders. Underneath two straps can be seen, which is an undershirt that lies beneath. She wears a pair of light brown shorts that have small bands of yellow on the cuffs. She rolls them to allow for quick getaways. Due to being poor, her tan gloves are torn. However, she wears them as they were a gift from her mother. Despite her animosity towards her family, due to them not agreeing with her professional choices, she still holds them in deep regard. Therefore, her mother's gift is dear to her. She sports light brown leggings, while ripped and patched, she adores them due to them being the first thing she ever bought. Around her waist is a dark yellow belt with small blue loops. Yet another gift from her family, is her scarf. She wears the light blue scarf as a memento to her father. She wears it to give her strength, since she believed he was a strong man. Orange boots with blue laces adorn her feet, she claims they assist her in running faster and looking "slick". Around her back is a sheathe that Hade gave to her. It holds her blue sword. She painted a small yellow stripe on it to show that the sword belonged her to her, due to it being her signature color. She later hooked a light yellow strap to the sheathe so she could carry it easier.
Relationships:
Hade:
Pennie and Hade have a simply professional relationship. He's aware of her feelings for him, but doesn't act on them due to his affection for Biae. He thinks of her as a little sister, but Pennie hopes that he will eventually reciprocate her feelings. She constantly tries to use her swift moves a sword to impress him and win him over. The efforts fall on deaf ears however. As of now, they have a brother-sister and or master-apprentice approach to their friendship, which is a downer for Pennie.
Biae:
Pennie despises Biae and believes she stands in the way of her relationship with Hade, due to his feelings for her. She finds any reason to be sarcastic or snotty with her and never treats her with any respect. Biae however, does not pick up on the animosity Pennie holds for her. She does think of Pennie as a child and doesn't think she will ever be as great with a sword as Hade is. Pennie is regarded as less of a person than her, due to her being nothing but a commoner in her eyes, despite the fact that Pennie was once a duchess. Biae is not aware of that though.
Rammy:
Pennie and Ramirez have a strange and strained relationship. She is unaware of his crush on her and often takes his advances as simply acts of friendship. She also tends to be openly affectionate towards him, which causes him to get flustered. Pennie, during these times, finds him awkward and steers away from him. Despite the relationship tension, Pennie is willing to aid him in his quest to better his ability to use his fire powers. He appreciates her help, but wishes she would pick up on his feelings for her.
Story:
Pia was born to Duke Frances and Lady Diana Ren on May 23rd 1848. She was born with beautiful auburn hair and light green eyes that appeared almost clear. Being terribly fussy baby, she would not let her mother set her down for even a moment. Her demanding nature most likely arose from the atmosphere in which she lived.
She was always pampered and tended to, no matter what, due to her parents lavish and rich lifestyle. Even though she lived a carefree life, Pia always wished for more. Never was she content with the jewels or frilly lace in which she was brought up in.
Each day, when her mother would dress her for appearances around the kingdom, Pia would sit and aimlessly stare out the window at the world around her. She marveled at the outside world, much more interesting in her mind than the tea and biscuits that surrounded her. She found her lifestyle mundane, longing to play in the rain or dance in the snow. She, in some senses, envied the lifestyle of those who were poor.
Her mother would turn her head away and say,
"Pia, you are not to glance at that filth, you have more important matters to attend to darling."
She'd just sigh and ignore her mother's claims, just because she was eight years old doesn't automatically mean she was as ignorant as her parents. It was a shame she couldn't see what she saw when she looked out on the world. But this sort of myopic behavior was what she had come to expect from her snobbish parents.
She would attend gala after gala, it was all so mundane. There was nothing exciting about getting into fancy attire and waltzing. Dancing was a form of conformity, and conforming to the regal and elite was not something Pia had any intention of doing.
But each day, she listened to her mother's constant prattle over who was the most lavish or proper in her town. She'd nod in agreement, but she never really paid any mind to what she was uttering.
Pia would just sit and stare out the window, into the vast and exciting world she was kept from.
Her parents sheltered her because they thought she was a fragile girl who needed protection. The truth was, they were the ones that needed protecting.
With their naive attitudes, gullibility and fortune they were ideal targets to be robbed. But little did they know that their fragile flower would be the only one who would be capable of preventing it from happening.
She knew how swift she could be, but it wasn't until she had to protect her family, did she realize the true extent of her abilities.
Three years later, during the daily carriage ride into town, the members of the Ren family were ambushed by a clever thief.
He spoke with a slight smile,
"Hello folks, my name is Hade. Say tata to your valuables, because this is the last time you'll ever see them."
Pia suddenly became pint up with rage, all the desire she had to experience the world was aimed at the brute in front of her.
She grabbed her father's sword from his belt and slashed it in anger at the thief before he even had a chance to react.
She kicked him in the face, knocking him unconscious, proceeded to take his belongs and then slashed his arm for good measure. Some dashing thief she thought.
Her parents sat there in horror, for their daughter had just committed a crime. They stared at her, disgusted by their fragile flower, for she had lost all her petals.
Her parents had no choice to but to turn her into the authorities, even if she was their daughter, she was a brutal mugger.
Before she knew it, Pia found herself in the Celeyti Kingdom's dungeon, chained to the wall by her arms and legs like an animal.
For what felt like eons, she was trapped against the wall, punished for saving her parent's lives.
Over time, she realized she needed to shed the persona of a broken former duchess. So, without another ounce of thought, she changed her name to Pennie.
A new name meant new opportunities and a disguise to hide behind. Plus it didn't matter anymore who she was, she was thrust from her life of luxury anyway, not that it bothered her. She rather liked being in the dungeon, it was quiet and was a place where she could think to and for herself for once.
She spent the next two years in the depths of the dreary steel prison. Only the light from the small window kept her hopeful that one day she could escape. The ropes that were restraining her arms had left bloody scars on her, leaving her forever branded as a criminal.
Her hope had just about run out when a familiar voice was heard from the small slit in the door near her.
"This cell won't hold me for long."
She couldn't quite place the name of the person, but she grinned and replied,
"Bragging won't get you out here."
She proceeded to tell the strange boy her name and how she ended up in the brig.
When he told her his name, she flinched. But she had barely any time to register her feelings of fear, because not a moment later, the wooden door between their cells came crashing to the floor.
He cut the ropes holding her to the wall with his glistening blade, and she fell into his arms.
She cringed, and looked up at him. She then noticed how handsome he had become in the two years she had last seen him, he looked more like a knight and less like a street rat.
He hoisted her to the window, but that was a fruitless attempt at escape, for a guard grabbed Hade when he tried to grab Pennie's hands to pull him up onto the windowsill.
In a blink of an eye, Hade and herself were laying on the floor of the Celeyti throne room.
The king and queen stared menacingly at them, beveling that they had no right to grace them with their presence.
After sometime, the monarchs said that the princess would decide their fate.
A girl with long white hair stood before them, her name was Biae.
After some amount of talking and convincing, Biae agreed to let them live. But, Hade was to be the new bodyguard to the young princess and she was to be his new apprentice.
For the next three years, Pennie learned the ways of the sword, earned a blade of her own and bettered her skills. She also developed feelings for her master, it was difficult not to, with his charm and grace tempting her. Another young man, by the name also joined them on their quest to protect the citizens of Celeyti, by the name of Ramirez.
Pennie thinks he's odd due his constant blushing whenever she's around, she just can't understand why that keeps happening.
She hopes that eventually Hade will see that they are meant to be, so they can sword-fight together for all time.
Quickly Now!
Chepi says Chepi blinked and leaned her head to the right, mimicking an owl. Suddenly she laughed, eyes beaming brightly. How kind of you but I am a lady.
