A small record of my dreams. May they humor, confuse, frighten, appall, enlighten, and speak to you as they do me.

Hellscape
-- I was around 5 when I had this, and it's probably one of the oldest dreams I can remember.
I woke up to the sound of my dog barking and lay listening for a few moments, groggy and unwilling to do much more than flop onto my other side. Usually at that hour she made several... interesting noises, but the only one we would respond to was the 'something is wrong' call. Constant low snarling was that cue, however, it was I that decided to go outside and check on her, which was unusual - this was my dad's job, not mine, since he'd often take one of the guns and a spotlight just in case there was an unwanted animal around.
When I snapped up from my bed, went through the hall and out the door, I was oddly alert and my mind was clear. For some reason halfway down the porch and across the yard I had no idea why I was outside, but I still managed to wander to our dog's pen. She was hard to see, being a black lab and all, but Sable came to the gate, and when I was petting her... her head jerked to the right, fur immediately bristling while a growl thrummed in the air. I looked in the same direction; Sable was the most timid dog I'd ever known, so if she was alarmed, I probably should have been too. Thing was, though, that growl wasn't hers. It was just... too deep and powerful, even for a big dog. Suddenly, a huge pair of shiny eyes were staring at me from somewhere in the woods, and before I knew it a massive black panther was slinking towards me.
My dog ended up jumping away from the fence and went to stand by her doghouse, but I stood there, mind blank even though I was alarmed a second ago. The panther glanced at Sable and hissed, curling around me but barely brushing against my body.
"Is she bothering you? Can I eat her?" it asked aloud, the voice now clearly masculine. He seemed to be very disgusted by the fact I was even near a dog.
"No! She's my dog! You're scaring her" I stammered. At first I wasn't sure he would listen, but what I said seemed to please him. Probably the fact he was so intimidating.
"Oh." He sat then, looking towards a blue building by our trailer. "Well, someone has taken your parents to Hell. Hurry if you want to rescue them." How prompt. He walked back to the edge of the woods and stood, waiting for me to go. Honestly I wanted to stay with the panther, but figured it would be better to save my parents. A large white sheet floated up from the ground like a magic carpet, the edges rolling gently in a non-existent breeze until I climbed aboard. I remember wondering why I really had to do this... I'd much rather be in bed.
Going to 'Hell' was sort of like a boring elevator ride without the music - I simply passed through layers and layers of earth and whatever else was down there until I came to a dark, dungeon-like area. Seeing my ride had stopped, I clamored off the sheet and started walking. There were many paths, but somehow I knew which one led to a nasty row of jail cells and walked until I found one that wasn't empty. Side by side and in separate cells were my mom and dad, hovering above the ground oddly [if you've ever seen Beetlejuice, recall the scene where the previous owners of the house are floating above the table and start to rot near the end of the movie - they looked exactly like that, same clothes and everything]. Something told me I should look to my right, and there in another, much larger and deeper cell was a huge dragon made completely of bones.
Noticing me, it lifted its head and began to speak. Also male in voice, all he said was that there was a maze somewhere in Hell I had to go to, and if I found the end, there would be a key that could unlock my parents' cells and they would be free. However, I only had one hour to complete my mission, or else they would die. I ran away from the dragon in an effort to find the maze, and I remember being scared for the first time in this dream when I found it. It wasn't much different from the dungeon setting, but I was terrified.
Somehow I managed to find the key, and right before an hour had passed, I gave it to the dragon. He was mad I'd found it, but proceeded to unlock the cell where my parents were [although they were separated by bars, the cells had one universal keyhole], but when the key turned... nothing happened. Instead the faces of my parents contorted and twisted into gnarled shapes, bodies withering away until they were scrawny twigs, eyes swirling inward toward their noses until a vortex appeared there and swallowed up the rest of their skin. A whistling screech of a noise accompanied the act of my parents' death, but all I could do was stare blankly at their dangling skeletons. Suddenly, the dragon roared, the door to his chamber slamming open.
"But I got it before an hour..." My words meant nothing to the beast, for I knew as soon as I'd spoken that there was nothing else I could do. The weird part? I wasn't the slightest bit sad, mad, angry, or upset that my parents were dead. I was only confused as to why I'd failed. Mentally I was wondering when could I go home, and as if to answer my question, the dragon's head snapped to look at me and I was pulled at an alarming speed right to his face, and right before impact with the massive skull, he said to me
"Hell is your home now."
