A creature born out of pure imagination, Surrealism is actually one of Artisan's few successes as far as how he ended up. Sweet and caring, he is quite typical of what one would expect a dog to be if they were turned into human form. Though, unintentionally, with his creations, he was granted great powers, and when the Daydream god saw this, he asked for Artisan's permission to keep him as a pet, just to make sure his power did not get out of hand.
So, with the god he went to stay, being a good and faithful pet, working under his watchful eye and blessing many with his powers over the dream world. Able to cause people to have dreams of such surrealistic nature, he can easily make people believe they are not dreaming at all, and are instead in an alternate reality- which to some extent is true. His own reality is quite...unreal, so his dreams are quite the vivid ones to be shared. Unlike normal dreams which can seem fuzzy and uncontrolled, when Surrealism brings a dream to you, it will feel as real as if you were awake, with perfect clarity.
Though not everyone is blessed with such dreams, for it is his job to influence the next generation's innovators. For every person who's great invention started with "I had this dream..." that is where Surrealism has been. Not often does he visit anyone besides them, unless they are children, which are his favorite to give such to. Children, by far he says, have the best dreams, for they are as unbridled as himself.
Quite the free-at-heart type, Surrealism is actually a lot more calm than what most would expect, usually the one to be the soothing and relaxed type rather than energetic and hyped up. Able to listen for long periods of time and give insightful input, he's a good friend when you get down to it; though, he's rarely ever found outside of his own dream reality, and is difficult to get in touch with otherwise.
