Waiting, Waiting
Sure was a bitter winter - but Friday will be fine,
And maybe last year's Easter dress will serve her one more time.
She'd pass for twenty-nine but for her eyes.
But winter lines are telling wicked lies.

Physical Appearance: Though in her late thirties, Juliet tends to look older than she is - and just as tired as she often feels. She's also got a rather monochrome appearance: her gray eyes lie muted against her pale skin, and her face is framed by wavy hair that, once blond, now leans towards a bleached gray itself. Her figure is slightly on the small side, giving her an altogether inconspicuous appearance.
Her clothes also tend to be bland; black is the most common color she sports and she is rarely if ever spotted in anything bright. Long skirts are her preferred choice, often accompanied by heavy long coats to help the cold. Juliet's overlarge coats and sweaters tend to shrink her appearance even further.
Personality: Juliet is quite introverted, but her defining characteristic is probably simply her exhaustion. She's rarely seen smiling, but nor does she ever snap at people - she's simply languid and weary. She's caring and gentle, but lacks all motivation. Her closed off nature tends to dissuade people from forming relationships with her, and so she tends to go through her day in relative silence towards the people around her.
Of course, her job entails interacting with the public. While she certainly lacks the enthusiasm that a client might enjoy, she's calm and patient and will do her best to help the caller - and then, of course, she'll probably never hear from them again.
History/Background: Juliet grew up as a quiet girl, but one with big ambitions and a bigger heart. From her youth she dreamed of studying the stars, and spent her after school days tutoring at the school's science lab. She graduated from her high school class with honors and, armed with a scholarship, headed off to college to pursue her dreams. During her classes, she discovered that there was something she liked to look at more than the stars: another student a few years ahead of her. The feelings seemed to be mutual and the two launched into a whirlwind romance - he proposed to her only a few weeks after the two of them met. Juliet, devoted to him, accepted. Her family, shocked and enraged, did not, and their wayward daughter lost all contact with them.
Juliet lived happily with her love for several years, though her college dreams were cut short when she dropped out to take care of the daughter she bore him. She was happy enough to do this, family was more important to her than a career. The thing she didn't count on was her husband: within three weeks after meeting her he had married her, and within three weeks after the birth of their daughter he vanished in the night. She never heard from him again.
A young single mother with no college degree and no job, Juliet struggled to support herself and her daughter Emma. She worked several jobs to earn enough to feed her family and to see her daughter through school. The loss of her husband, the man she had loved, weighed heavily on her spirit, but her daughter's smiling face was enough to encourage her to keep working. For eight years Juliet watched Emma grow, and the scars from the abandonment began to fade. And then, despite the young girl's health, a harsh winter was enough to steal her away. Emma became ill from being out in the snow, and passed away within a week.
Juliet isolated herself from society. She took a job as a customer service representative to support herself, and managed to work there for nearly a decade without getting to know any of her coworkers.
When Demeter's daughter was yearly snatched away to Hades' dark world, the bereft mother mourned and nothing could grow on earth for her discomfort. This, to the ancients, was winter: season of loss and sorrow.
But today we know better. Winter is just another season. The snow is not the teardrops of any goddess, nor do the plants wither for want of a mother's warm caress. Winter is neither good nor evil - it does not feel, it does not care. It simply is. There is no reason to think of it as anything more.
When the snow stole my daughter, my beautiful girl, it was forever. The sun's rays did not return her to me; she did not rise with the spring buds and run into my arms. I was left alone, and the earth did not care that I mourned. The seasons changed around me, the years turned-
But in my heart, it is forever winter.
