"People always feel sorry for me. I mean, okay, my mom died when I was eight, and I was sent off to a guy I'd never met that was supposed to be my dad. Whoop-de-doo. Lots of people have seperated or dead parents, I'm not the first and I won't be the last." Akeela said irritably.
"Well, perhaps people often feel sorry for you because growing up from an age such as eight, when most little girls are still often very attached to their mothers, without your mother, is just sad, and if they had to live your life they might feel, say, depressed."
"Look, I get that you're a shrink, and you have to analyze my thoughts and behaviors to figure out what's wrong with me, what sets me off, and stuff, but I don't need you to tell me I have anger issues, or tell me I have some bee es daddy issues since he left my mom when she got pregnant with me."
Dr. Agreno stared hard at Akeela over the top of his glasses. She sighed, hung her head, and motioned for him to do his thing. The doctor grimaced before continuing his questioning.
He cleared his throat. "I know you have been to other psychiatrists, and your father still feels the need to send you to me. In your opinion, why would that be?"
She stared at him as if he was insane. "You mean you don't know? It's not in my records from other shrinks or something?" Dr. Agreno shook his head. Akeela practically facepalmed in exhaustion and tsked. "Got a lighter?"
Dr. Agreno furrowed his brow. "Why on earth do you need a li-" he began before being cut off by Akeela.
"Do you have a lighter or not? Or a box of matches? /Something/ that makes fire?" Pausing for a moment first, Agreno pulled a small BIC lighter from his coat pocket and gently tossed it into Akeela's hand.
Lighting it in one swift movement, Akeela looked at the doctor. "Watch carefully, I'm gonna do a magic trick," she said sarcastically. Putting her other hand over the flame, she twisted the small flame around her fingers, showing no expression of pain, only concentration. Dr. Agreno's jaw dropped in amazement and... fear. Akeela suddenly clasped her hand and let go of the lighter to put out the flame.
Akeela shifted uncomfortably and set the lighter back down on the table. "That's why. I bet that old man of mine made sure that the others didn't include it in their reports. They all never wanted to deal with me again afterwards."
Dr. Agreno shifted back in his own chair, not bothering to grab his lighter, as if to move farther away from her without her noticing. Akeela rolled her eyes.
"God. You're all cowards. Something different happens and you immediately cower away as if it's some deadly, contagious disease. At least no amount of money seems to be able to cause any of you to act like I don't scare you once you've seen my weirdness. I'm out, doc, you're just like the rest." Akeela stood up and walked out, furious. /What happened to shrinks not being judgemental?/ she thought silently, fuming as she stormed out of the building.
What she deals with from people.
