~Background story~
It was a chilly night in fall, only an hour past sunset. He had just recently left the bar after a couple light beers and was a tiny bit tipsy. He had always been pretty lightweight when it came to alcohol. He luckily decided to go home before he was absolutely trashed.
Suddenly, however, as he leaned against a wall for a mere moment and closed his eyes, someone - something - came out of nowhere and knocked him to the ground. His head exploded with pain, and suddenly his tipsy feeling was gone. The pain was far worse than a hangover, and sobered him up rather immediately. His assailant growled lowly, feral, really, and Samael then felt a punch to his stomach, and he gasped in pain. Laying on the ground, his head in pain and not even thinking to get up and try to defend himself was hardly the best defense.
He tried to scramble up and discovered some sticky liquid substance on the ground as he attempted to get upright. The back of his head erupted with more pain and he put a hand to the back of his skull, and he realized that the substance was his own blood. He began to feel a bit dizzy now, as a probable adrenaline rush began. He managed to stand and blinked, seeing no one around him. He was suddenly in the grip of someone, whom he assumed to be his assailant, their arm wrapped around his neck in a stranglehold. He judged by the absence of certain body parts pressing against his back that it was a man. He grabbed the guy's leg and the arm wrapped around Samael's neck and began to lift.
Thank God for all that weight training in high school, he thought to himself. Sam felt his attacker's body tense up in surprise and the arm around his neck tightened. Samael lifted up and over his head, throwing the other man a few feet away. He watched as the dark figure managed to land on all fours, unharmed, and scowled. He wasn't dealing with any ordinary thug, unfortunately. The shadow disappeared, making Samael's jaw drop in surprise, and then he felt pressure on his back, shoving him forward onto the ground again. This time he wasn't given the chance to get up.
He felt two sharp things sink into his neck deeply and his body went numb from shock. His mind blackened, though he realized one thing before passing out: his attacker was lapping up the blood from his neck!
When he awoke some time later, he found himself lying on an uncomfortable, old bed in a window-less room. He was also chained to the wall. "What the heck kind of S&M is this? And where am I? Last thing I remember is that fight...." he muttered to himself. Samael then realized a sudden... thirst. No hunger, simply thirst. As soon as he realized it gnawing at him, it grew and multiplied itself tenfold.
The one door at the end of the room opened and a woman walked in, dragging something behind her on a leash. Her pale, almost white, skin was obvious in the dimly lit room. She looked at him with a rather blank, uncaring look. "So you are finally awake..." she said in an oddly silky, smooth voice with a very slight accent, as though she was from Britain. Compared to her facial reaction to him, he figured her voice would be as monotonous as the tone her face suggested. "You've been sleeping for the past week since Dasrael attacked you. No wonder, since you went up against a vampire as a mere human."
Samael was aghast. "I-I've been asleep for the past WEEK?!" he asked. The part about going against a vampire as a 'mere human' went right over his head. The woman nodded and as he raised a hand to his head, he remembered the chains as they restricted his movement. "Wait... why am I in handcuffs?!"
She gave a small smirk now, as though she found his reaction amusing. "You Changed, of course. In order to prevent you from awakening and, say, throwing such a fit that you end up hurting yourself, we chained you. As a fledgling vampire you don't have much strength different from that of a human, but you are strong enough to do damage to yourself. It's also why you were able to do anything to fight Dasrael, really. He's only just made it past fledgling himself."
This time Samael caught the vampire part of her answer. He ogled her as if she was crazy. "Vampire? You're just screwing with me now, right? Everyone knows they aren't real."
This time she gave a loud laugh, though light and almost airy as if breathing and laughing at the same time was hard for her. "Ah, you have so much to learn. If you don't believe me, then tell me why you only feel thirst instead of hunger? Or if that isn't enough, try going outside into the sunlight. Although if you do that, you may not get to come back inside." Her voice was now mirthful and had that kind of I-know-better-than-you-do-hon tone. He remembered the chain she was holding and changed the subject.
"What's on the chain?" he asked, almost suspicious.
She smirked. "Breakfast." She pulled in the chain more and a deer was dragged along on the end, clearly unconscious. He gaped. It's eyes were open and glazed over - it looked nearly dead.
"Wh- Y-" he began, protesting. "What the heck am I supposed to do with that?!" He didn't literally expect an answer.
"Drink the blood, of course. As a fledgling you won't last very long without any. Animal blood doesn't quite sustain as well as human, but we can't exactly go out and just capture one of those without some suspicion."
Samael scowled. "I refuse." His tone was probably more defiant than it ever was towards his parents when he'd had his own little rebel phase as a teen.
She shook her head silently and resumed her blank look and a monotonous tone. "Have it your way, kiddo. You'll change your mind soon enough, I'll bet." She left the room, shutting the door behind her, and dragging along the deer.
Samael winced and held back a gag as he soon heard flesh tearing, organs squishing, and bones snapping through the walls. He attempted to block them out mentally and found that the sounds only grew louder, before stopping a few minutes later. Clearly, there must have been just one or two vampires in this place. That deer was likely completely drained, even from all the organs. He shuddered as the image came to him mentally. Yet he felt the thirst in him grow stronger.
The next months were torture. Over days, the thirst grew and grew, making him irritable and practically insane. Then the next day he'd find the thirst much less noticeable than before. It was a cycle of this, him refusing to drink willingly then having it forced down his throat before he completely died. When Thanksgiving came around, he found himself pining for his family - his mother, aunts and uncles, all gathered in one home and happy, enjoying some great homemade food, and just a night of them all having fun. It became worse around Christmas, remembering caroling as a child, waking up Christmas morning to see the presents that "Santa" left behind until he was eight or nine, discovering it was his mother's doing the whole time.
By Easter, he felt dead inside. He was, after all, no longer human. He couldn't return to his previous life: living in a cheap apartment by himself, working a crappy job, hanging out at the bar sometimes, going to the gym a few times a week, seeing his family only at holidays.
Once he realized this fact and it settled in, into his very being, really, he began leaving the room more than once or twice a week for a shave and even willingly took part in the latest catch of wild animals. Human blood was often more rare, since they didn't exactly want to make their existence known.
Now, he had accepted the fact that he was a vampire. He didn't like it, no. But he accepted it, and began his own new, undead life as one. After all, what else could he do?
